Best mug cake I have ever made! Dense, chocolaty, rich, & yummy! It didn't have a spongy texture at all that you sometimes get from mug cakes. I used mini chocolate chips and they worked perfectly. I sprayed my cup with a little baking spray and it popped right out after baking. Mine cooked about 3-1/2 minutes and was perfect.-17 Feb 2015

Tasty! Made it with my children helping. Something really easy for them to do! We added a few Maltesers to it-14 Jan 2015

In your TM puree the beans, water/coffee, 1 egg and vanilla until smooth on speed 7. Set aside.

Without washing the bowl, beat the butter and sugar Speed 5 30 seconds

Add the remaining eggs & beat for 20 seconds SP 4.

Add bean mixture SP 4 5 seconds.

Add the cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and blend SP 4 10 seconds.

Pour batter into greased ring tin pan and bake MOD oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

This GLUTEN FREE / NUT FREE /HIGH PROTEIN cake is wonderfully moist and works with most canned beans. Chickpeas work but they have a bit of a strong taste. If you use a round tin it will take a few minutes longer to bake.

You can also use oil instead of butter to make it dairy free - but butter is better!!

You can also make it in muffin tins which take about 20 mins to cook.

Step 1

Combine both cake mixes in a plastic bag. Be sure that one of your cake mixes is angel food, otherwise the cake won't rise.

Step 2

Once combined, put 3 tablespoons of mix into your mug. Seal up the bag and save the mix for another time.

Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of water into your mug. Stir it up so that there's just cake batter in your cup, no more powdered mix.

Step 4

Microwave for one minute. Seriously. That's it.

Step 5

This is what your mug cake should look like right out of the microwave. It should be spongy, not gooey. If it's gooey, place in the microwave for another 10 to 15 seconds.

Step 6

Decorate that cake! I used frosting and candy, but whipped cream or peanut butter make for good toppings too.

And there you have it, a gloriously magic mug cake that can easily be prepared in your dorm room. Share this goodness with your friends, or keep the secret to yourself and make people believe you really do belong at Hogwarts. Hagrid would be proud.

Drizzle the tablespoon of water right on top of the batter.

Cook in microwave on full power for 1 minute and 20 seconds to 2 minutes.

Accessories you need

Measuring cup

(1 minute and 20 seconds is my magic number), or until the cake rises to the top, the edges look set but the center looks ever-so-slighly wet and shiny but not raw, and sticks slightly to the finger when touched.

Do NOT overbake to ensure that saucy, molten-y interior. If the center still looks raw then give it another 5 to 10 seconds. The cake will fall after it comes out of the microwave.

Let it cool for a few minutes so you don't burn your tongue, but the waiting also help thicken the sauce in the bottom.

Thanks to SPLENDA!

We are all about simple and quick recipes – especially treats, like this easy mug cake!! And we are especially excited to have been able to use SPLENDA® Naturals that allowed us to get the sweetness we craved without adding any calories.

I’m excited to use SPLENDA® Naturals in even more cooking and baking which can help me make small changes over time and help me hit my goals in time for the holidays.

Can Splenda be used in any recipe? Generally Splenda can be substituted for white sugar at a 1:1 ratio in any baking recipe without changing the texture or flavor. If for some reason the recipe calls for more than 1 ¼ c of sugar or the amount of flour is less than twice the amount of sugar, then you’ll want to reduce the ratio to ½ Splenda: 1 sugar.

  • A pinch of Salt
  • 2 tablespoon of granulated Sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 2 tablespoon Sunflower Oil
  • 2 tablespoon Cocoa powder

  1. Let’s get the dry ingredients mixed first. Measure All purpose flour (maida) in a small bowl. Add baking powder, a pinch of salt, and granulated sugar. Whisk to combine. Set aside.
  2. Take a mug and add the milk, oil, cocoa powder and a pinch of instant coffee.
  3. Mix everything well to combine. Add the flour mixture to the cocoa mixture and mix well. Once thoroughly mixed, microwave the mug for a minute.

Each and every microwave is different. It might take less time or more time depending on each machine. Roughly it will take anywhere between 50 seconds to 90 seconds. So if it looks underdone after 60 seconds, microwave it for 15 seconds more. Repeat if necessary.

Pressure Cooker Chocolate Lava Mug Cake

2-year old Ada, testing the first pressure cooker mug cakes.

When I first came up with first mug cake recipe, 7 years ago, no one was pressure cooking mug cakes. What is the point of whipping out the pressure cooker when you can just slide the mug in the microwave and call it a day?

Instead, it’s exactly how the pressure cooker heats-up foods (from the outside in) that make a lava mug cake possible. The outside of the cake takes shape before the center – ensuring a fully cooked yet molten bubbly center in the middle.

So, the secret is out! Turn any microwaveable mug cake recipe into lava by simply pressure cooking it and adding a little more baking powder than what the recipe calls for.

Why this chocolate mug cake is a favorite?

This is a piece of advice from a girl who craves chocolate at crazy times of the day: always always have some good quality chocolate and cocoa powder in your pantry because sooner or later, you will be needing them!

This delicious velvety double chocolate mug cake is great for days when you want some chocolate cake but don't want to do all the work, and perhaps like me, don't have any interest in store-made stuff. All you have to do is grab a mug, break an egg into it, add some sugar, milk and some other stuff. Mix it and then put it in the microwave for only one minute and thirty seconds. That's even less time than TV ads! Then you can grab your mug cake, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and voila! Happiness in a mug!

Already in your pajamas and craving something sweet? No need to run out to the store! Our recipe for Chocolate Mug Brownie is a personal-sized dessert that's made with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry (Bonus: This is a chocolate mug brownie with no egg!). Plus, it only takes one minute! It looks like your me-time just got even better.

We used to think that cake was the only dessert you could make in a mug, but we've never been so glad to be proven wrong. This brownie in a mug is everything that you love about the traditional gooey chocolate dessert, but you don't have to wait around for a whole pan of brownies to bake! Like with regular brownies, this recipe can also be dressed up in any number of ways. Try topping your mug brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some chocolate chips, or even a drizzle of caramel syrup. The possibilities are endless, and we know you'll come up with something genius and delicious!

Microwave cooking instructions

We are going to be making this double chocolate mug cake using the regular microwave reheating function. Which means please only use glass or ceramic wear that is microwave safe. Do not use steel or cheap quality plastic that can be hazardous for your health and quite dangerous to use also.

The cooking time will differ from one microwave to the other. I tried to microwave it for 90 seconds first and discovered that the outside is perfectly cooked but the inside and the middle was still raw. Which is why I cooked it for an additional 30 seconds. Making the full cooking time to come at 120 second or 2 minutes. I recommend that after the 90 seconds mark you try and insert a skewer into the centre and see if the mug cake needs more cooking and work accordingly.
